Janie Lockwood
Janie was born in Vancouver, BC. and now lives in Calgary, Alberta. She has always been interested in art. Initially batiks were her focus which led her to watercolor, oil and finally acrylic. Largely self taught, she works mainly in mixed media, acrylic, collage and pastel on canvsas or birchwood panels. Janie has painted for ten years and just recently started to work at it full time. "My focus has been to emphasize the beauty of nature. I do this by abstracting my composition somewhat. Zoming in on the subect or painting it slightly out of context somewhat. In doing this I hope to entice the viewer to feel involved in the piece. " Janie's work is full of subtle textural interest and we love the way she represents nature with abstraction and color.
Alison Philpotts
Alison is a landscape artist who works with acrylic paint on large canvas's. For inspiration she draws on the rolling prairie and mountain scenery of Southern Alberta and British Columbia. She finds paint to be a natural medium of creative expression. Through the guidance of her father she learned about acrylic painting, mixing color, effective composition, flow and looseness. She works with a strong color to create a feeling rather than an image of a place. Whether sunlight reflecting off leaves, shadows in the woods and creeks or wide spaces around drifting clouds above distant mountain ranges, she opens a personal experience to the places she paints. Her goa is to bring the feel of the natural environment into an interior space. We feel she does this with great ease and beauty.
