It all started with love. As a young girl I enjoyed getting my hands dirty and creating art, but it was in 2005, when my older sisters were getting married that my true desire to paint was revealed. I wanted to do something special for their weddings and with my twin sister, we decided that the perfect gift would be Hoogveld originals. Celebrating love and happiness through my art was truly rewarding and I knew from that moment on, that painting was my true calling.I spent most of my youth playing soccer, including five years with the University of Calgary Dinos while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and teaching career. Now living in the Isle of Man, Great Britain, I paint professionally and sell my work internationally at the following locations. My biggest supporters are my family and friends and I am especially grateful to my parents who have encouraged and challenged my skills every step of the way. As a self taught artist, I have so many wonderful memories painting in their garage, on a folded up ping pong table as my easel, my twin sister on the other side, guidance from my dad, tea and cookies with my mom, and a pure joy of painting that I continue to experience to this day. In June 2013 my life drastically changed when my mom was diagnosed with Luekemia and died in a very short period. She taught me that our time here is short and through her example, to live a simple and happy life. Truly an inspiration, my mom gave me the courage and strength to pursue my dreams and in her honour, I created an entire new series for the Calgary Stampede. I dedicated the painting, "A Mother's Way" to show my appreciation for the love and knowledge she always gave me and feel especially grateful to have been selected as the 2013 Western Art Showcase - Best of Show for New Artists. After teaching high school math and art for five years, I decided to commit to my passion for painting and became a full time artist. I am grateful for my journey thus far and ecstatic for what is yet to come! Recently I was selected as one of the artists to showcase my artwork in the Homes by Avi Dream Home at the 2014 Calgary Stampede. My twin sister and I will share the task of creating an entire new series based on the culinary experience. Be sure to come visit the Dream Home and bring your appetite for food, homes and art! Growing up in Calgary, Alberta, I have always been a true country girl at heart. I love being in nature and especially enjoy being around horses. The paintings I create are an expression of my life though travel, encounters with the environment, my faith and self discovery. My work varies from bright, vibrant and colorful pieces that reflect joy and a sense of play, to rich monochromatic paintings in warm sepia hues, that evoke curiosity and compassion for the given subject. In each painting I create, I aim to produce works that speak louder than any words I could verbally express. I have faith that my paintings will speak for positive change, even if by the slightest amount, and this will bring me great joy that I only hope to spread among others.tell a story and let your users know a little more about you.
